The short version
If you just read this site, we don’t collect anything about you. There are no accounts, no comments, no advertising and no tracking. If you use the contact form, we get what you type into it, and we keep it to ourselves.
Reading the site
This site doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and it doesn’t set cookies for visitors. WordPress sets cookies only for the people who log in to run the site. Fonts and other files are served from this site, not from Google or another outside service.
Like any web server, ours keeps a short-term log of requests, including IP addresses and the pages visited. We use it to keep the site secure and working. We don’t use it to work out who you are.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, we get your name, your email address and your message. The form doesn’t record your IP address. Your message is sent to us by email and stored in the site’s database.
Form entries are deleted automatically 12 months after they’re sent. If you’d like yours deleted sooner, ask through the contact form.
What we won’t do with it
Many people who write to us describe their own complaint, and that can include personal, financial or health details. Whatever you send:
- We won’t publish it, or anything that could identify you, without your permission.
- We won’t pass it to the OLSC, the Law Society, the Bar Council, a lawyer or anyone else.
- We won’t add you to a mailing list, and we won’t sell or share your details.
The one exception is a court order or a law that requires us to hand something over. If that happens, we’ll give only what’s required.
Where it’s kept
The site is hosted in Australia. Your details are kept on the site’s server and in our email.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form and we’ll answer within 30 days. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
If we change how the site handles information, we’ll update this page and the date below.
